The dictionary definition of the tragedy is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe. It describes tragedy as only being something major life changing event. Some people use the word tragic to describe more than big events such as a serious accident or a natural catastrophe. They use the word to describe something that is so small scale compared to an event that is actually tragic. I think that the use of the word is misinterpreted and people need to realize the actual meaning of the word instead of using tragic for everything. Wikipedia describes tragedy as a form of drama based on human suffering that invokes pleasure in audiences. It goes on to say that many cultures have developed forms of tragedy that provoke the response in audiences, the term tragedy often refers to a specific tradition of drama in cultures. Tragedy first originated in ancient Greece theater 2500 years ago and Shakespeare made some minor changes with the meaning of tragedy in his works. More recently, modernists have changed the meaning of tragedy completely to the way that we see it today as being death, loss, and suffering.

I love human suffering, too! And I derive much pleasure from it. The wiki thing was pretty universal in my blog and other ones I've seen. The definition found in dictionaries and the definition you see in wikipedia isn't the same at all. It just depends on context,
